Arterial
Walking across an open fell on the fringe of the Lake District I was attracted to this gnarly juniper tree which had not survived the endless attack from adverse weather conditions over decades of time. The spread of its branches, clinging low to the ground, reaching out from the spiral twist really appealed to me. The detailed texture of the roots against the grasses and rocks added further interest. It presented a real challenge to compose the image on a very windy winter morning, I ultimately decided on a square format, choosing colour rather than black & white to highlight the colour of the branches against the unsaturated green grass.
